Join us for this 10 week course as we continue with the history of the Israelites. This session chronicles the end of the Israelites in exile and their return to the land. It begins with Ezekiel’s visions of the new temple in 573 B.C. and ends with the temple being dedicated in 515 B.C. We conclude Ezekiel’s and Daniel’s ministry in Babylon and learn about the start of Ezra, Haggai and Zechariah’s ministry in Jerusalem. We learn of the reasons for the long delay in rebuilding the temple and the challenges that the exiles faced upon their return to Jerusalem.
  • Daniel (Dani’el), a young man sent to Babylon as a captive and served as an adviser to the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, to his son Belshazzar, to the Persian king, Cyrus and lastly to the Median king Darius. His message was to proclaim Yahweh’s sovereignty overall, including the foreign countries and proclaim hope to the captives that Isreal would be restored one day.
  • Ezekiel (Yechezk’el) prophesized to the captives in Babylon during the same time Jeremiah was prophesizing to the Judeans. Their message was similar as he spoke of Yahweh’s judgement and their need to repent. He was also shown many visions of the heavenly realm which he tried to convey to the people about the connection of their behavior and their worship to Yahweh. He encouraged them with the message that they would return to Judah, with a new temple, a renewed land and restored relationship with Yahweh.
  • Ezra was a priest who led the returning exiles back into Jerusalem and helped them to rebuild the temple, restore the land and people back to Yahweh.
  • Haggai was a prophet to the Jews who had returned from the exile in Babylon. His first assignment was to open their eyes for them to see where their hearts and priorities really was. He admonished them to do what they were supposed to do when they returned to Jerusalem, which was to rebuild the temple with a willing heart.
  • Zechariah (Z’kharyah) was one of 3 prophets that ministered to the exiles as they returned to Jerusalem. His message was of encouragement and hope as the exiles returned to the ruins to what was once a glorious, thriving city. He shared with them the visions that he was given from Yahweh of how they would be vindicated, that the city would be restored and of the Messiah that would bring eternal salvation and reign in His eternal kingdom.
